Let's finally get this ball rolling folks

WIP ii

Some differences from the last: I've got some more animation in the beginning!

I think with this transition in particular where the two faces are meeting, I had some trouble, so I might go back to the earlier roots of this project, and see how I can turn these into the fan-like rainbows I was drawing in my thumbs. (a recommendation from my prof, Vee! <3)

This being such a long process, I sometimes forget how I got here in the first place. I'm glad I have this blog and a log of a lot of my other materials from the beginning of the year to keep me going when I feel stumped.

the final scene

A lot of the feedback I got from class on this WIP had to do with my ending. My whole film is transformative and moving, and yet the last scene is so still, with very little dimension in it. So here are some suggestions I received to keep in mind:

  1. break how static the hands feel, add motion within them

  2. try to move the camera around them (achievable esp if rotoscoped), and change the framing to be less central

  3. place the anchor point of rotation in the center of the hands, have the arms move but the hands constant

  4. give the vines and plants constant movement, make them grow and blossom, or put a moving texture within them

  5. Make the plants grow into something more extravagant --> hands appear like the roots of a tree, and move the camera as it grows (maybe like an extreme low or high angle)

  6. The plants and hands all merge into one

my shotlist!

whew... having everything I need to do down on one page is daunting, but at the same time digestible. I need to keep in mind that this is a living document, something to keep updating and changing to best fit my needs.

The most helpful column to me is the plot importance. I might break it down even further to have like a super important untouchable category. It's been keeping me on track in terms of what to tackle first. I might also add another column for the dates I should start working on shots, and the goals on when to finish them. Just so I can spread everything out and make sure every shot gets the coverage it deserves.
